At a Glance: Grattan Majors

Storylines/Things to Watch:

Going to Grattan – After one weekend off, the Northern Conference is back in action at the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour at Grattan Raceway.  Nestled in Belding, Michigan, Grattan Raceway is a winding, hilly, complex assortment of almost every conceivable corner imaginable for a two-mile track. The course’s 10 turns include an uphill ascending radius turn, a flat-out dogleg off a 160-degree hairpin, a hidden apex and a downhill reverse-camber turn. It’s been said that if you can master Grattan Raceway, you can drive anywhere. Catch the action live this weekend at www.scca.com/live.

This is the End – Racing Saturday and Sunday at the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour at Grattan Raceway concludes the Northern Conference’s 12-round competition calendar.  Also, this weekend’s event wraps up the entire SCCA U.S. Majors Tour season. The Southeast Conference, Western Conference, Mid-States Conference and Northeast Conference have all completed their schedules and crowned champions.

Crowns Up for Grabs -- A few class championships in the Northern Conference could be decided this weekend at the SCCA U.S. Majors Tour at Grattan Raceway.  Touring 4 is the battle of Mazda MX-5s as only 14 points separates leader Ryan Kowalewski from James Ebben in second, with both slated to appear at Grattan.  Another Mazda Miata duo on the entry list this weekend are Michael Sturm and Michael Froh in F Production.  Sturm has a three-point lead on Froh going into the weekend.  And in Spec Racer Ford, Max Koff has only a seven-point lead on David Schaal, and they’re both scheduled to be racing at Grattan.  Follow the action live this weekend at www.scca.com/live.

On to the Runoffs – The pinnacle of the Club racing calendar, the SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® presented by Garmin VIRB, is next on the competition schedule with 23-lap races September 23-25 on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course’s 2.25-mile, 13-turn layout for all 28 Runoffs-eligible classes. Each Class will get a 15-minute qualifying session each day -- Monday through Thursday -- to set starting grids. The fastest time over the four days will earn the Tire Rack Pole award, which is presented during Thursday’s all-participant party. The Thursday night party, on site at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course, will also honor the newly crowned SCCA Worker of the Year selections.
