Storylines/Things to Watch:
Headed West – The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour will make its first trip out west this weekend for a stop at Willow Springs International Raceway just north of Los Angeles. First raced on in 1953, the 9-turn, 2.5-mile “Big Willow” is sometimes lovingly referred to as the “Fastest Road in the West.” The 600-acre complex is home to eight racetracks embracing nearly every conceivable motor sports discipline. There are great viewing spots all around the racecourse, so bring a camera … and $10 to gain entry.
Hollywood Home -- With the hub of the entertainment industry so close, perhaps it’s no surprise that Willow Springs International Raceway has been the backdrop for countless TV shows, movies and commercials. The venue was used by George Lucas in “A Man and His Car” and also appeared in the 1969 Disney film “The Love Bug.” The movie “Fast Girl” was filmed and based at Willow Springs, and in 2013 the track was featured on the British BBC program “Top Gear.” Additionally, the circuit was included in the “Gran Turismo 6” videogame.
Weekend of Champions -- A bunch of current and former SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® winners are slated to appear at this weekend’s Hoosier Super Tour event at Willow Springs International Raceway. This includes reigning H Production champion Brian Linn who was also named the 2016 President’s Cup recipient. With so much talent at the track this weekend, the racing is sure to be competitive and exciting.
Now, Your Local Weather – Finally, Southern California has seen some rain over the last couple months. But thankfully, looks like the rain is going to stay away for this weekend’s racing at Willow Springs International Raceway. The highs for the weekend look to be in the low 80s with temperatures dipping down to the low 50s at night. Wonderful weather will certainly make for a wonderful time, but maybe bring along some sunscreen to be on the safe side.
