Storylines/Things to Watch:
Last Spin Out West – Racing this weekend at PIR represents the second and final Hoosier Super Tour event for 2018 out west. The first event took place just a couple weeks ago at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in California’s Central Valley. For some drivers, PIR will be their last shot to generate points for the Hoosier SCCA Super Tour Point Championship before the 2018 SCCA® National Championship Runoffs® being held just north of San Francisco Oct 16-21 at Sonoma Raceway.
Competition Along the Columbia -- Nearly 160 racers are expected to tackle the 1.977-mile, 12-turn PIR circuit found alongside the Columbia River. A couple different car classes are showing up with stout fields and will be ones to watch, including Spec Racer Ford Gen3, Formula Atlantic® and Spec Miata. And the weather looks to be perfect for racing with temperatures hovering in the upper 70s and no significant rain in the forecast.
Did You Know – A stone’s throw from downtown Portland, and sitting right along the border of Oregon and Washington, Portland International Raceway was developed around the remains of a housing community destroyed in 1948 by a disastrous flood. But the local Portland Jaycees saw potential in the abandoned roads left behind and created a road course that, in 1960, held its first race. And incidentally, the venue has served as the backdrop for movies and television shows filmed in the area.
Unbeatable Ticket Prices -- The Hoosier Super Tour visit to beautiful PIR is open to spectators. Admission is FREE for all fans who want to come out and experience the noise, color and action in person. And be sure to make a weekend of it and enjoy everything The City of Roses has to offer. But if you can’t get to the track, follow all the action at www.scca.com/live with live timing/scoring, trackside video cameras and Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire.
