Storylines/Things to Watch:
Ones to Watch -- Those who follow the Hoosier Super Tour might remember the epic Spec Racer Ford Gen3 (SRF3) battle that took place a few weeks back at Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Mike Miserendino, John Black and T.J. Acker had exciting battles at the front both days, with Miserendino grabbing a pair of victories. Expect another great SRF3 weekend as Miserendino and Black are both expected to be at PIR, but they’ll face stiff competition from some local drivers who know PIR well and have proven records at the top level of SCCA competition. Other classes to keep an eye on include Super Touring® Lite, Touring 3, Formula Atlantic®, Formula Mazda, Formula F, Formula Vee® and Spec Miata.
Variable Skies -- On average, Portland sees around 40 inches of rain each year, with a little over two inches of that precipitation coming in the month of May. While the latest weather forecast indicates the wet stuff won’t be present for the entire weekend, and temperatures predicted to be in the upper 60s and low 70s, there is still a chance of rainfall. So, it’s wise to be prepared with some rain gear if you’re going to be at the track, and maybe have some rain tires ready just in case. And if it does rain, look forward to some exciting Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour racing at PIR.
Free to Be Trackside -- The Hoosier Super Tour visit to beautiful PIR is open to spectators. Admission is FREE for all fans who want to come out and experience the noise, color and action in person. If you can’t make it to the track, follow along with live timing/scoring, video, Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire and more at www.scca.com/live.
Know Your PIR History – Just north of downtown Portland, and sitting right along the border with Washington, Portland International Raceway emerged from the remains of a housing community destroyed in 1948 by a calamitous flood. But the local Portland Jaycees saw potential in the forsaken roads left behind and created a road course that, in 1960, held its very first race. One of the few road racing circuits located within a metropolitan locale, the venue has also served as the backdrop for movies and television shows filmed in the area.
