Storylines/Things to Watch:
Final Weekend -- The 2019 Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour comes to a close July 26-28 at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca with the series’ eleventh and final round taking place near Monterey, California. This will be the very first Hoosier Super Tour event conducted at the legendary raceway that hosted an SCCA National Championship back in 2014, and a last chance for drivers to claim a Hoosier Super Tour win this year. However, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca is not the last chance to earn points toward the Hoosier Super Tour Nationwide Points Championship as the 2019 SCCA Runoffs® in October at VIRginia International Raceway is also a points-earning opportunity for competitors.
Accepting the Challenge -- Nearly 145 drivers this weekend will take on the challenging 2.238-mile, 11-turn circuit at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca that includes the legendary Corkscrew that drops drivers nearly 60 feet down an 18 percent grade in only 450 feet of track. One class to keep an eye on over two days of racing is Spec Racer Ford Gen3 which sports over 20 entries. Spec Miata and Formula Continental could be interesting, too, as each class has a dozen drivers slated to get on track.
Changes at Laguna Seca -- It has been a year of change for Laguna Seca and the Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), the non-profit organization that operates Laguna Seca on behalf of Monterey County which owns the facility. To begin with, the venue is now known at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as WeatherTech, a company that produces a long list of interior and exterior automotive accessories, took over track naming rights earlier this year. The long-standing octagon tower that overlooked start/finish has been demolished, and numerous upgrades have been made around the facility. This weekend’s Hoosier Super Tour provides a great excuse for spectators to come check out the changes, as well as watch some exciting competition at an exciting track.
Come Watch the Racing -- The Hoosier Super Tour stop at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, an event hosted by SCCA’s San Francisco Region, is open to spectators and free of charge for those who want to watch all the excitement trackside at an absolutely beautiful venue. There is a $5 fee per car entering the Laguna Seca Recreation Area where the raceway sits, but that fee will be waived for persons showing SCCA membership cards.
