Storylines/Things to Watch:
Last “Regular” Season Hoosier Super Tour -- This weekend, August 28-30 at Pittsburgh International Race Complex, the 2020 Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA® Super Tour “regular” season comes to a close. This year’s competition schedule started back in January with an opening weekend at Sebring International Raceway, followed by February events at Circuit of the Americas in Texas and California’s Buttonwillow Raceway Park. Things were then delayed a bit, and the schedule rearranged, after COVID-19 concerns gripped the nation. But when late May rolled around, Hoosier Super Tour racers were back on track just outside of St. Louis at World Wide Technology Raceway. The WeatherTech Chicago Region® June Sprints® went off as usual before two events took place in July, the first being a visit to Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and the second a rescheduled stop at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta. That brings us to the eighth and final competition weekend at PittRace. However, the championship chase won’t end in Wampum, Pennsylvania, as the October Runoffs® at Road America is also a points-earning opportunity in the Hoosier Super Tour championship.
First for PittRace -- While this weekend might be the last stop on the 2020 schedule, it also represents the first time PittRace and SCCA’s Steel Cities Region have hosted a Hoosier Super Tour event. The Region, however, is no stranger to conducting high-profile, well-run events. In fact, this weekend is actually a crown jewel in the Region’s road racing schedule as it represents the 68th annual Cumberland Classic -- one of the longest running, continuously named events in the country.
Classes to Note -- As usual, Spec Miata and Spec Racer Ford Gen3 will be races to watch as both groups have about 20 cars per field. Super Touring® Lite and GT-2 might be interesting, too, as each has about a dozen entrants. Also pay attention to the GT-3 field as this weekend at PittRace is part of the GT-3 Challenge presented by MPI, a series boosting participation in the GT-3 class and supported by Mazda, Max Papis Innovations, Penske Racing Shocks, AiM Sports, Hoosier Racing Tire, Goodyear Tire, Carbotech Performance Brakes and Bell Racing Helmets.
Unfortunately, No Spectators -- We know you’d love to come out and watch some of SCCA’s best do battle around PittRace during Hoosier Super Tour’s final event of the year. But because COVID-19 concerns still loom, organizers ask that those not directly involved with teams or race operations please stay at home. Fans can, however, follow all the action online with live timing/scoring, video, Super Tour Radio presented by Hoosier Racing Tire and more at www.scca.com/live.
