The Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour’s first races of the season completed Sunday at Sebring International Raceway.

Go Speed Racers: It was cool. The sky was cloudy. And it was dry.

That’s a recipe for a track record at any track, and especially so at Sebring International Raceway. And not just in the new-to-the-Super Tour or reconfigured classes.

The record lowering got underway in Group 2. Ken Kannard, a transplanted northerner who now calls Sebring, Florida home, dropped the time in F Production to 2:27.393. David Daughtery went 1.5 seconds quicker than anyone else in B-Spec to set a new mark in his Mini Cooper.

In all, six records fell on Sunday. Russell Turner, who scored three podium finishes during the weekend in total, dropped the mark in Formula Enterprises 2. In the Touring Car group, three marks were set – and not always by the winners. Joe Moser set a new mark in STU before his day ended early, and Breton Williams laid down the quickest time in Touring 3 but finished second. Danny Steyn won and set a new mark in the STL class.

Seeing Double – Or More: One of the more thrilling back and forth friendly rivalries in the paddock has developed over the years between Fall-Line Motorsports, based near Chicago, and Phoenix Racing, based further east in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia. It seems a car and driver from one of those programs is, more often than not, in the hunt in many of the fendered classes, and for good reason – both are top-notch programs who attract top-notch drivers.

Kurt Rezzetano caught the brunt of that rivalry in Sunday’s Touring 2 race, when he started his Phoenix Racing Chevrolet Corvette behind Fall-Line Porsches driven by Tim Kezman, Joe Boden and Mark Boden. Rezzetano eventually made his way to the front to the win the race, after multi-lap battles with each car.

“It was like seeing doubles, and triples, and quadruples,” Rezzetano said. “It was like, Oh my gosh, another Fall-Line Porsche. They’re all fast. These guys are driving awesome, it was a lot of fun. It was a battle, especially with Joe. Joe was driving the wheels off it. I had a lot of fun out there.”

Back to Back: The IMSA professional racing paddock has coined a saying and a hashtag in the build up to Sebring’s Mobil 1 Twelve Hours each year for the track, which is “Respect The Bumps.” It’s no joke, as the old concrete of the former World War II-era airport can jostle any car – especially one with a stiff suspension.

All of that is to say, it was a very bad week for Spec Racer Ford driver Brian Schofield to throw his back out. But the Florida resident climbed into his PM Racing Spec Racer Ford and climbed out – albeit very slowly – at the end of the weekend with two wins.
Sunday somehow became a lonely race when Denny Stripling and Russell Turner got together in the battle for the lead at Schofield’s home track.

“I guess I owe Denny a dinner,” Schofield joked. “I knew I could do some pretty good laps here by myself, so I just put my head down.”

Sunday Champions: Winners in seven groups of 14 lap (or 35 minute, whichever came first) races were given victory laps on Sunday at the Hoosier Racing Tire SCCA Super Tour’s first stop of 2021 at Sebring International Raceway. Provisional winners from Sunday and their cars are denoted below, with an (*) marking those who swept both Saturday and Sunday’s races.
